If you are someone who has to dispose of their dog’s bed several times a year because the stuffing has become clumped together, it’s become mouldy or else it can be smelt from every corner of the house then you should seriously consider buying him a waterproof dog bed.
This is because most of the above mentioned issues are caused by a wet, or even just slightly damp, dog lying on a bed. The water soaking into the stuffing often makes it harden as it dries and water added to the warmth of your dog’s body is an ideal combination for the growth of bacteria and mould. For some dogs this simply isn’t an issue. If your dog wouldn’t even consider jumping in a stream or puddle or is one of the many who hides in their dog kennels whenever it starts to rain then you are lucky as his bed will remain dry. However, the fact is that most dogs don’t mind a bit or rain and love nothing more than getting wet and muddy.
You can choose either to buy waterproof dog bed covers to put over his current cushion or else a fully waterproof bed. Whichever one you go for you will almost immediately notice the difference. You will be able to use nothing more than a damp cloth to wipe down the cushion if it gets a bit muddy or dirty (and if it’s really dirty you can just pop it into the washing machine) or can quickly dry it off with some paper towel. The bed will retain its shape and comfort and won’t take on that doggy smell to which dog beds can be prone.
Though some of these beds can be quite expensive it isn’t actually all that difficult to find cheap waterproof dog beds if you search online or in the sales, especially if you are willing to buy an end of line model.
